The White Mountains

The White Mountains of New Hampshire form the tallest mountain mass in New England. While their highest peaks reach above timberline, their upper slopes are covered by a dense forest of dwarf paper birch, spruce, and fir, and their lower slopes are cloaked in a northern hardwood forest of beech, yellow birch, and maple.
